INVESTİGATİON OF PROSOCİAL AND ANTİSOCİAL BEHAVİORS İN TEAM SPORTS

Abstract

The aim of this study is to examine the prosocial and antisocial behaviors of individuals participating in team sports towards their teammates and opponents. This study is an applied study in the descriptive survey model, which is one of the quantitative research methods. While the population of the study consisted of amateur athletes actively engaged in sports in football, handball and volleyball branches in Malatya, Elazığ and Tunceli provinces, a total of 152 amateur athletes, 78 of whom were men and 74 women, who were active in football, handball and volleyball branches in Malatya, Elazığ and Tunceli provinces selected by random sampling, participated voluntarily. “Prosocial and antisocial behavior scale in sports” developed by Kavussanu (2009) and adapted to Turkish by Balçıkanlı (2013) was used in the study. In the normality analysis of the data, Skewness and Kurtosis values and Kolmogorov Smirnov test results were examined. In the statistical analysis of non-normally distributed data, Mann Whitney U test was preferred for paired group comparisons, and Kruskall Wallis test was preferred for multi-group comparisons. The analyzes were carried out in SPSS 25 package program and the significance value of the results was accepted as p<0.05. In the study, significant differences were found in age, sports age and educational status variables in the sub-dimensions of prosocial behavior towards teammates and prosocial behavior towards opponents, and in age, gender, sports branch, sports age and educational status variables in the sub-dimensions of antisocial behavior towards teammates and antisocial behavior towards opponents (p<0.05). It was seen that the prosocial behaviors of the athletes participating in the study were high, their antisocial behaviors were low, and age, sports year and education status affected prosocial behaviors, and age, gender, sports branch, sports age and education status also had an effect on antisocial behaviors.
