ANALYSIS OF SOME TRADITIONAL GAMES WITH RESPECT TO SELECTED MOTOR CHARACTERISTICS WITHIN THE SCOPE OF ETHNOSPORTS

Abstract

Traditional games have recently begun to take on the identity of traditional sports games and become institutionalized. In this context, traditional games, like popular sports branches, need to be analyzed in terms of different development areas such as sports branches for their development. The most basic of these development areas is the motor development area. The aim of this study is to examine some traditional games within the scope of Ethnosport in terms of motor features. Within the scope of selected motor features, traditional games of equestrian javelin, mounted archery, kokbörü, ashyk games, mas wrestling were analyzed in terms of strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and hand eye coordination. Document analysis method was used in the study. The documents were collected from video, photographs and written sources on the ETNOSPOR official website, in accordance with the popular culture documents and visual documents categories of Bogdan and Biklen (2007) and Bryman (2012). Various inferences were made by analyzing the data obtained. As a result, equestrian javelin, mounted archery and kokbörü branches, which include horsemanship, are traditional games that require branch-specific balance in addition to the basic balance skills required by horsemanship. The application of techniques on a fast horse, the use of materials, and one-on-one combat with the opponent highlight the element of balance in these branches. In addition, mas wrestling and minstrel games also contain an element of balance, although not as much as the other games examined. In terms of strength, mas wrestling, kokbörü, equestrian javelin, and mounted archery are games within the scope of ethnosport aimed at strength development. As a result of the analysis of traditional games in terms of coordination feature, ensuring hand-foot coordination in equestrian branches, adapting the body to changing situations during the fight against the opponent, and shooting on a moving horse require coordination feature. Equestrian javelin, kokbörü, and mas wrestling are branches where flexibility stands out. Since equestrian javelin, mounted archery and ashyk games involve shooting at targets, these games are traditional games that allow the development of hand-eye coordination. Traditional games such as equestrian javelin, equestrian archery, kokbörü, asik games, mas wrestling within the scope of ethnosport include strength, balance, coordination, flexibility and hand-eye coordination.
