LEARNED HELPLESSNESS AND LEADERSHIP IN ORGANIZATIONS ABSTRACK

Human is a social being and must be included in a group in order to continue his life. From the day he is born until the day he dies, human acquires a place in society; becomes a part of groups such as family, school, social environment and business life. As a result of the modern world, the time spent by individuals in their workplaces has also increased in terms of quantity and quality. Business is no longer just a means of earning money, it has become a place for people to realize themselves. Positive or negative situations encountered in the workplace affect their attitudes towards work and also affect the personal life of individuals. Learned helplessness is known as the generalization of the result of failure of individuals to other situations, it is not only valid for individuals but also organizations are known to learn helplessness. The phenomenon of learned helplessness in organizations occurs with findings such as low quality, low productivity, and absenteeism. Another factor of learned helplessness in the organization can be the leader of the organization. While leaders are expected to motivate their employees and reveal positive behavior patterns, they can also drag their employees into learned helplessness. It is known by everyone that the attitudes and behaviors of the leaders affect the work motivation of the employees. Accordingly, the aim of the study is to examine the concepts of learned helplessness and leadership from an organizational perspective.
