Abstract

Motor skills play an important role in the expression of performance in many sports disciplines. Balance and jump performance, which are among these skills, are important indicators in the evaluation of athletes’ branch-specific physical competencies. The aim of this study was to compare the dynamic balance and vertical jump performance of athletes actively participating in different sports disciplines in terms of different parameters. A total of 170 athletes, including 73 females and 97 males, voluntarily participated in the study. Of the participants, 60 were involved in team sports and 110 in individual sports. Dynamic balance performance was evaluated using the Tecnobody ProKin PK 200 WL device, while vertical jump performance was assessed using the My Jump 2 mobile application. Since the data were not normally distributed, the Mann–Whitney U test was used for two-group comparisons, and the Chi-square test was used for categorical variables. In the general evaluation, no significant difference was found between team and individual sport athletes in terms of dynamic balance, countermovement jump (CMJ), and squat jump (SJ) performance parameters (p > 0.05). Among female athletes, significant differences were found in favor of team sport athletes in SJ height, SJ flight time, and SJ velocity values according to sport type (p < 0.05). When evaluated separately by gender, significant differences were found in the PL, AG, MS, and ML dynamic balance parameters among female athletes, and in the PL and ML parameters among male athletes (p < 0.05). In conclusion, sport type, gender, and the measured performance parameter should be taken into account when evaluating balance and jump performance.
