Abstract

The purpose of this research; The aim of this study is to examine the effect of social media use on sleep patterns and eating habits among students of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences according to variables such as gender, age, economic status, duration of social media use, tools for using social media, skipping meals, and sleep duration. The population of the research consists of students of Elazığ Fırat University Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences in the 2022-2023 academic year. The sample of the research consists of 460 students randomly selected from the universe. In collecting research data; The survey method, which is one of the methods based on self-report, was used. As data collection tools in this research; Personal Information Form, Social Media Use Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and ORTO-11 Scale were used. Statistics and analysis of the research were performed using the SPSS 20 package program. In the study, pairwise comparisons based on various variables were examined with the independent sample t-test, and comparisons involving three or more variables were examined with the one-way analysis of variance test. Due to the fact that the sample group was students, there was no significant difference in many dependent variables. No significant difference was found in the variables of age, gender, income level, and working years. In this research, the social media tools used by sports science students studying at the University and the Circadian rhythm and nutritional patterns affected by this will be determined. Its effects on the student will be evaluated and necessary evaluations will be made. In addition, the right steps will be taken to reach the desired levels of productivity for sports science students.
