EXAMINATION OF SPORTS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS’ SPORTSMANSHIP ORIENTATIONS (EASTERN ANATOLIA REGION EXAMPLE)

Abstract

The purpose of this program is to examine the sportsmanship abilities of athletes studying in Sports High Schools in the Eastern Anatolia Region in terms of various variables. The universe of the research consists of 3169 students studying in Sports High Schools in the Eastern Anatolia Region in the 2019–2020 academic year. The details of the research consist of 2479 students studying in Sports High Schools in the Eastern Anatolia Region (Bitlis, Kars, Van, Muş, Ardahan, Tunceli, Iğdır, Erzincan, Ağrı, Erzurum, Elazığ, Hakkari, Malatya) and providing the participation on a voluntary basis. The "Sportsmanship Orientation Scale" developed by Sezen Balçıkanlı was used in the research. The Cronbach alpha value of the scale is at the level of 0.85. According to sportsmanship characteristics, it was determined that there was a significant difference in all sub-dimensions according to the sports category, in the sub-dimensions of respect for rules and management and commitment to responsibilities in sports that changed according to the sports category, in the sub-features of compliance with social norms according to the license status variability, in the sub-dimensions of compliance with social norms, respect for standards and management and commitment to responsibilities in sports according to the age status variability, in the sub-dimensions of compliance with social norms, respect for rules and management and commitment to responsibilities in sports according to the class status variable, in the sub-dimensions of commitment to rules and management and commitment to responsibilities in sports according to the family income status variable (p<0.05). As a result of the research, it is seen that the variables of gender, sports branch, license status, age status, class status and family income status are effective on sportsmanship displays.
